in the few times Massa outqualified Bottas, it's by a tenth or two.

Bottas was 4 tenths faster in Suzuka, 1,1s in Spa, 0,9s in Hungary, 0,3s in Germany, 0,4s in Silverstone and 0,8s in Barcelona

Mind you, I have never thought Massa was a driver to be in F1 for so long. Kimi and old JV apart, Massa was always beaten by his team mates(included are Heidfeld and Fisichella. Both very good drivers, imho, who are already long gone)

Williams is quite often the second best car this season and, to me(in my humble perspective), it's frustrating seeing Massa in one of the seats, with some much bigger talents out there, imho.

I've never rated Massa as one of the top drivers, very capable yes, but he, like Button has maybe 1 year left in him, max 2 and are well and truly at the fag end of their careers. Where as some one like Hulkenburg, Mags, Perez even have 5 to 6 years of top flight seasons left in them. That's why some one else should be in that Williams seat.

And for this reason I can't fathom why McLaren haven't locked down Mags for a couple of years. Little rough around the edges, but the car has been pretty average this year and some of his penalties have been racing incidents that have harshly been punished. He has more outstanding drives left in him than Button.

In both cases, it's likely that the teams are in need of the experience, even in place of less outright speed. Mags and BOTTAS are still a little rough around the edges, and McLaren especially would benefit from Button's Honda working experience, even if only for one year.

I do like the expression "at the fag end of their careers..." though I sense I know what jokes are coming up next.....

Just wishful thinking. Can't blame them, Alonso would be better then Maldonado or Grosjean in marketing terms.

Is Alonso's image allowed to be used in association with brands that he doesn't legally endorse?

That was what I was thinking as well. Besides that he's still a Ferrari driver so they and their sponsors wouldn't be too happy either normally.

hmmm, interesting. Where should Santandar be placed?

All these sponsors, reminds me of Murray's description of the 1998 Williams :-D

Santander would fit very nicely into the the red gap where PDVSA used to be...

If Santander pulls out their Mclaren and Ferrari sponsorship, they have more than enough to give Alonso a seat.

Isn't Ferrari's Santander money supplied for Alonso? Even if it was, I still reckon PDVSA actually give more.

Not the most reliable source but: http://www.gpupdate.net/en/f1-news/3182 ... ious-plan/

Quote:
"I have a very ambitious plan in my head for my future," Alonso told reporters in Austin. "I think that this is the best thing for Ferrari as well. If that happens people will be very, very excited, as I am.

"I am extremely happy and all the things in the last two or three months follow exactly the plan that I had."

When asked if his future represents a 'last chance saloon' to secure a third Formula 1 title, Alonso said: "Probably, yes."

what the hell is he up to??

It sounds like he's starting a sort of Junior Ferrari team. I've read elsewhere there where buyers for Marussia and there might be other teams that wanted a junior team like Red Bull has.
But I doubt Marussia, even with Alonso, Santander and Ferrari backing, would be able to win him a title.

And at the same time I'm expecting him to say "you know that exciting thing I was talking about? I'm going to McLaren...." and we're all "meh" :tumble:

He must be smart enough to know that he isn't going to build a team from scratch and live long enough to be champion in it
