ESPNF1: Europe 'finished' for F1 - Ecclestone

Quote:
Bernie Ecclestone believes that there will only be five races held in Europe in the near future, saying that it is "finished" as a Formula One hub. Formula One has traditionally been based in Europe, with all of the team headquarters found within Britain, Italy, Switzerland and Spain. There were nine races in Europe this season, and the number will shrink to eight next year when the Turkish Grand Prix disappears from the calendar. Ecclestone, however, still feels that number is too high and expects more to fall by the wayside in the not-too-distant future. "I think in the next few years, Europe will be left with only five races," Ecclestone is quoted by Marca. "I think Europe is finished. It will be a good place for tourism but little else. Europe is a thing of the past." When asked if Europe was the spiritual home of Formula One, Ecclestone responded: "It used to be." Ecclestone was clear where he was hoping to expand to in the future too, with the Russian Grand Prix in Sochi already planned for 2014. "Russia for sure, we have a contract there ... Maybe South Africa, Mexico."

Fuck off Bernie, it almost sounds like you only want 5 European races. Sereously fuck off!

Someone should create a new series totally based in Europe, apart from the usual races in Japan and Australia. I bet it can kill F1 in little time, by offering incredibly cheap deal to the classic GP circuits. It can happen. It happened in America.

Yeah that only took 10-15 years and almost completely decimated US open wheel racing. Good example.

I just laugh at how places like South Africa are the future of the sport, how is a corrupt, declining shithole in any way the future xD.

Bernie is 81 years old and getting more delusional each day. Isn't time for CVC to find replacement for Bernie?

In "real life" Kimi would look like a retard with answers like he's providing to intereviews, but in sport it seems to be "cool". Did you think about the fact that if you knew personally a guy who was answering question like him, what would you thinking about him ? It is Kimi's style, but its just strange sometimes ! I'm glad he's back tho ! :D

I fear Raikkonens comeback will be about as successful as Schumachers.

As good as that?
I think it will be worse.. MSc at least has been in the top 10, Kimi, although he has massive reserves of talent, I just don't think he has it in him when the going gets tough and he has to dig deep within himself to get the best from a car.. I hope I'm wrong, but from his manner and laid back attitude I can't see it!

No I'm going to base on the fact he's one of the best F1 drivers....... in the 2nd half of 2009 he scored more points than anyone else, yet people judge him on the fact he had an icecream?

I love the way people say he's unmotivated. You did see him in the second half of 09 in that shitbox F60, when it was clear he was about to be replaced?

Yup. The only time his motivation perhaps failed was mid-08, but there were a plethora of reasons for that.

Anyway, there was another driver announcement recently too...

Well remember his best quotes :p http://www.f1zone.net/news/the-words-an ... imi/10648/

James Allen tweeted last night about more major changes at LRGP expected soon (ie, today?). Possibly something to do with management reshuffle or maybe something to do with the engines?

He'll stay 1 year with Lotus, powered by Renault, don't forget, and then move to Red Bull (oh what a surprise, Renaut engine too and Red Bull is Kimi's main sponsor) to replace Webber. It sounds too obvious to be sure. We will see ! :)

Post subject:  Re: 2011 Random F1 Discussion

I'm glad he is back, I love seeing him race and I do hope the Lotus is not a complete shitbox but i think it will be. My only concerns with him is his motivation when in a midfield car when he knows where he has been in the past.

Kimi will not of lost anything. It's not like hes really old now, hes still 32 which is prime age for a racing car driver. Alesi said it himself, he said Kimi probably has more natural speed then anyone who has ever steeped into a grand prix car. Don't be surprised if hes blistering quick when he first jumps into the car again.
