He got 33% of the vote, mostly down to his requesting people vote for him on twitter. Made me chuckle at work that's for sure.

And don't forget, when Moreno's car broke down McCarthy was ordered out of his car so the team could use parts to mend the other.

I was taking a look over the tests photos and something really surprised me, this photo from Pic, his head looks way too exposed, maybe the setting of his seat could cause that? Did anyone noticed that too?

There is an FIA mandated test that dictates that the drivers head should not go over the theoretical line between the top and bottom roll hoops (it might even be 50mm below that line, thats what it was for us in FSAE). This is a very easily cheatable test, because the driver can sink to an abnormal position to go below it. Don't know if they have to do FIA scrutineering for testing, there must be miniumum safety regulations they have to pass before they go out on track

Very good pick up.

I remember that after that Wurz crash in Melbourne if I'm not wrong, FIA concerns about head protection increased, which made the head protection a little bit bigger, which makes this photo really strange as you can see almost his entire helmet. I agree with you about the safety regulations, a test can be as dangerous as any official session or race, they have to be under those regulations at any time and any session.

There's an interview with Perry McCarthy here where he talks about some of the things that happened at Andrea Moda:

I was talking about the rollover test, because that's a variable test, as it's relative to drivers heights.

The side crash structures are vehicle construction, that I wouldn't have a clue about. If I was to guess, they side crash structures would need precise dimensions and mounting. F1 cars would have a datum (line forward of rollhoop) and everything would have to conform to dimensional regulations.

Ahh right, sorry I misunderstood your post. Now I wonder if we will get any information regarding that, I don't know how tall Pic is, but this is too much even for a tall driver.

Sorry for bringing back the worst driver topic, but apparently everyone's forgotten about Al Pease, the only guy to ever be black flagged from an F1 race for being too slow.

Hans Heyer ... the best part is that the gearbox failed before he could be black flagged. Outside the 20 year remit of this contest as it was in 1977 ... I think it's even more difficult to decide on the worst driver of all time, there's so many people who showed up randomly for one race, were hopeless, and then just disappeared - especially in the era when you could build a car in a shed and either be really competitive or utterly hopeless ...

Surprising thing about Kimi's break-up for me ... Kimi was with someone? I had no idea. I don't really follow driver's personal lives, and to his/her credit, his other half wasn't being a tit-end on camera all the time (Hamilton) and Kimi's always been about his driving ... and partying.

This photo is from Wednesday - anyone else think it doesn't look like Grosjean? The eyes remind me of their development driver Nico Prost.

It's also hard to determine the worst driver if you consider their career before their time in F1. An example could be Alex Yoong.

That was denied by Whitmarsh and since then I haven't heard anything from it.

I have to agree. That guy was awful. Sometimes he was even awful in a hilarious way :p

Cosmetic question: are they getting rid of the snowplow front wings in 2014?

I think Ide takes the cake also. Being very slow and clumsy crashing is one thing (that all bad drivers share), but not even finding reverse on your own car? That's whole new levels of bad. Also one of the rare drivers to get his superlicence revoked, can anybody think of someone else?

AFAIR, the front wings will be slighty narrower for 2014 onwards. Can't remember the exact width but I think it's something between what we got now(1800mm) and the previous 1400mm

edit: found it, 1650mm will be new width of it

That change has now been scrapped, Aero regulations next year will remain as they are now.
