You have to differentiate however. I'm sure Lewis could have answered in a perfectly PR friendly way, or he could have just stated his opinion. And he's a purebred racer, he loves to compete and that's how he answers the questions. What more do you want? Finally someone who doesn't answer generic PR bullshit but states things that every racer (regardless of their idols) could actually agree on. Of course in doing so, he becomes a very easy target for criticism. But I love it and I appreciate him stating his opinions.

Is that true though? Is he getting worse or is it that he is receiving more scrutiny? Additionally it is fair to suggest that the way the media reports information has changed, so words are being taken somewhat out of context to make a more interesting article. It is better to write many words out of little, than have a no story at all.

By the way, it should be pointed out that this isn't exclusive for Lewis. It is the same for all drivers. Especially for those at the front of the sport. Seb had the same when he was in his dominant period, Fernando as well, Rosberg for the past few seasons.

The only thing I roll my eyes at is 'the other driver' stuff, even if he doesn't hate their guts, those particular choice of words makes him sound like s bitter man child.

I think it's obviously good for the sport that he speaks his mind, and I think he ultimately isn't held up to any more scrutiny these days than any other multiple champion.

All drivers put their foot in their mouth at times - Vettel does it often enough, Alonso too. My point is that, when it goes into obvious mind game territory - and the aforementioned 'other driver' routine is a prime example of this - he just isn't very good at it, and it comes across as clumsy. It doesn't seem to be a case of selective quoting here; he just does not seem to be able to make cutting remarks on the same level as his driving.

Some of the legends of the sport refused to share data with their team mates, Prost is a prime example.

Yeah, this is kinda what I meant, only worded in a way that makes sense :D

What he is doing/saying is nothing new, it's just clumsily done.

Clumisly? Last week he talked about how Heikki Kovalainen cost McLaren a constructors title. Then he probably went like "oh that reminds me, I'm racing a Finnish driver next year again. I don't want to share my data this time either."

Sure, Kovalainen didn't perform well in McLaren, but the rules were also against him. You had to have your race fuel in qualifying. Every team had number one strategy and number two strategy. McLaren also gave all the upgrades first to Hamilton and Heikki had limited access to Lewis' data. How did all that happen? Well, Heikki didn't have manager at the time, so while he was driving, no one was talking to the team's head at the time. And surely Lewis' dad and Ron did not came up to with some ideas how to boost their golden boy's path to the title. :innocent:

After 2009, Lewis had reign world champion at his team mate and they were treated equal. And at times Jenson was the better driver while Hamilton had weird accidents. So 2008 - 2009 McLaren was definitely Lewis' team, after a year of internal turmoil and spygates in 2007, that made sense. And Kovalainen was the "Niceman". He's in the top team, everything is just fine, you know. It wasn't.

Heikki gave too much leash, Jenson and his manager didn't. Then Lewis moved on to Mercedes, but that was now Nico's team. So again he was treated equal.

Now, Valtteri Bottas is under Toto Wolff's management already. Has been since 2012 or so. And Toto has contract extented to 2020, just published this week.

Lewis Hamilton wants the team to work for him, so he plays his moves against Bottas before he even gets in the team. That's why Lewis preferred Wehrlein in December when asked. He probably already knew that it's going to be Bottas. Sneaky moves, but not unheard of in this game.

I think the F Duct would have it's effect almost "voided" when/if actuated together with the DRS

Obviously, as DRS isn't allowed everywhere, the F Duct would definitely still be very worthy on many non-DRS spots around the circuits.

I do believe Lewis, as I do, would prefer that nobody could see each other's telemetry and setup but, because it's allowed, I'm sure he looks into it every single time even if he confortably beaten a team mate in a particular session. Drivers want to know where they lost to their team mates, it's just a normal curiosity

As I said, I also would prefer that nobody could cheat/copy other drivers' lines, braking points and etc, but because that makes both drivers go faster, the teams will never forbid the exchange of info as it helps them

That didn't work with Senna because I'm sure I heard stories of Ayrton studying Prost's telemetry, for hours, on the Saturdays' afternoons

So, Renault says their 2017 engine is 95% different, yet they only expect 0.3s improvement on the engine side.

Even if Mercedes' engine improved nothing, which won't be the case, that's still not nearly enough for Red Bull's superior aero to compensate for

Mercedes domination again

I seem to remember reading that Honda were always very happy to provide Senna with all the data he asked for, whether it was from his car or not.

I find it somewhat amazing, knowing how many people are working on those cars, that no images are spread before. I guess it is all contractual etc etc, but still, it amazes me.

I think it's also the team spirit and pride of being part of such an elite group of people.

I really don't understand why F1 Fanatic and Motorsport.com have plastered massive watermarks on images that aren't even theirs. It's hardly a scoop if Mercedes 'leaked' them :?

I kinda hope the neon bits are on the car, and not just some kind of effect on the images. There is not enough neon in F1 these days.

Well said. One can probably reveal only three secrets during his stay in a elite group. The first, the only and the last. Good luck for the new challenges.
