I need some backstory on the 1995 McLaren Schumacher test. :o

In the meantime, to stay on topic, one of the coolest-looking cars of the mid-90s (shape-wise, not livery-wise)

It's David Coulthard, he borrowed it at the Monaco GP because his helmet kept steamming up

1996 Monaco GP to be specific.

But here is Michael actually testing other machinery...

Ha, I forgot how much of a piss-take the Ligier was!

Flavio bought a large share in Ligier in 1993, basically to strip them of the Renault engines that he couldn't get for Benetton at that point.

In 1995, he 'promoted' Tom Walkinshaw from chief engineer at Benetton to 'run' Ligier, and so we ended up with this:

Image

The early B195, of course, had the same weird engine cover bit...

Image

Somewhat incredibly, Walkinshaw was able to successfully argue that they were sufficiently different:

Tom 'bent as a six pound note' Walkinshaw wrote:
Mechanically it is totally different and structurally it is quite different as well. Aerodynamically it’s as close as we can make it . . . Of course the damn thing looks the same. But if you go into the detail . . . nothing is interchangeable.

Apparently, the JS41 was signed for by Frank Dernie, despite it being a literal clone of Rory Byrne's design. And people griped about the Red Bull and Toro Rosso...

This was my view of the famous taxi ride after the 1991 British GP. Shortly after taking this photo I was picked up (literally) by a police woman and taken back to the spectator area.

Ah, that is one of the pictures from *after* someone thought to tell Damon about the tape on his ear! Obviously wouldn't happen these days.

We had Herbert's win at the Ring in 1999, Vettel at Monza in 2007 and Button's win at Melbourne in 2008. It has been long overdue.
