We need rain or a miracle to make this a good race.

Will there be a race at Monza next year? I want to believe there is. Monza is irreplaceable.

After the agreement with Heineken, it's almost sure that Monza will be there next season!

I visited the track yesterday, was in Milano and it was on my way back to the airport so I set aside a couple hours to get a look around.

The whole track was surprisingly still freely accessible through the park, including the old oval and all of the grandstands. The track looks really great and some spots seem to be giving really nice views to the spectators. I was surprised at how close the barriers are to the track, the TV shots are really deceptive, some places are scary narrow (like the run-off in the Ascari chicane).
I didn't spot any of the suspected works to modify Curva Grande, but I must say I didn't really wander in that section.

The old banking looks clean, it must have been resurfaced lately. I took a picture as high as I could get without slipping to show just how steep it is (up to 80% gradient at the top). It's impressive, but the turning radius is much larger than modern ovals so I don't think it would be very fun to race on in any current racecar - even if we set aside the obvious safety concerns.

Side story, the man who took my picture is a Monza native whose father worked at the swimming pool located near the first chicane, and who's been attending the Grand Prix since he was 20 days old.

What a beautiful day it was. All my friends think I'm crazy to get through that much trouble just to walk on empty concrete and watch an empty road, but they know nothing!!

Good on you! They are the ones missing out, of course. Looks like it was a great day!

I was able to go to the pitlane when I went there, it was trackday and went to the oval either, it was a dream come true

This should prevent cars going wide and getting away with it.

Fast race but let's be honest, not a lot has happened here in the past seasons.

Oh, Monza, the first F1 track I've ever visited for the 2013 Grand Prix. Coldtyre's pictures from T1 and old oval really brings back memories. This circuit has some seriously important role in F1 history and it should be its future too.

This year we might see the official top speed record of 370,1 km/h by Kimi Räikkönen in 2005 Monza broken. Although Williams hit top speed over 378 km/h at Baku, that was not registered by the official speed trap. If the top speed record is not broken this weekend, next chance is at Mexico where Massa hit top speed over 364 km/h last year with his Williams, which was the top speed record of the 2015 season.

:8: 378kph is outrageous in a street circuit. Or anywhere really.

If they go ahead with the new Curva Grande kink, we could approach the 400kph :o

Talking about young "superstar" drivers doing stupid moves, I remember that this reckless driving from Ralf Schumacher at Monza in 1997 owned him a reprimand from the stewards (although it wasn't deliberate, more due to lack of awareness):

Max should do like his father once did when he raced at Arrows and use zero wing setup

Where do these high speeds of the latest years come from BTW? Are the engines much more powerful than, say, the V10 era? Or is it the additional electric power from the hybrid? Or just the cars/components getting better and more aerodynamic?

Probably all of the above. Even new fuel can help.

What if Magnussen isn't fit for Monza? I thought Ocon was their 3rd driver but he'll be busy. Who will they put in the car, Carmen Jorda? Sirotkin?

Well they'd need someone who can get within 107% so that's Jorda way out.
