McLaren has been a trainwreck since Sam Michael smashed his way through

McLaren were already a trainwreck then. Michael just made a bad situation worse.

How bad is bad? When the team that kicked out it's former race director for being incompetant thinks you are more incompetent and wants the old guy back. That is how bad Eric must be.

I have marveled for years that Boullier even has a job anywhere in F1.

Whitmarsh was in charge of McLaren when Dennis was forced to stand down in the wake of Australia 2009. Once he took over the team started a downward performance and reliability spiral while he mismanaged the relationships of both Hamilton and Mercedes which lead to both quitting the team, plus he brought in Sam Michael who focused on achieving (and celebrating) one fast pit stop even though Button and Hamilton lost points, podiums and a race win or two as a consequence.

It’s amazing Boullier has a job in F1, let alone such a high profile one. Yet he has nothing on Sam Michael who has held high positions at teams at the start of their performance (and in some cases life) life demise. And Whitmarsh stills gets perceived as someone who brought success to McLaren purely because he was Ron Dennis’ understudy.

Looks like Red Bull are switching to Honda :8:

Quote:
Red Bull has decided to switch to Honda F1 engines next year, high level sources have revealed, with confirmation of the move likely ahead of this weekend’s French Grand Prix.

Although the Milton Keynes-based team had been expected to wait until the Austrian GP to make its final call on the 2019 engine decision, indications now suggest that senior management has made its mind up.

For sure, he just accelerated the downturn.

Surely that Red Bull out of the title fight now. No way Renault will give them the same treatment as their own team and other clients.

Likely but they're still the best Renault team out there. The top brass probably still want those wins regardless who gets them and what name is on the sheet.

Don't RB pretty much engineer their engines themselves?
They provide their own oils and stuff and have tuned the Renault unit to work better with their oil than the works team has with their oils, so it could be that Renault don't have a lot of input on the RB engines other than provide them to them.

Right, but I was thinking about updates. Remember the Toro Rosso situation last year? Now I don’t think it’s going to be that bad, but surely they won’t have updates at the end of the season.
The good thing is you can hardly update the engine anyway

Anyone else find Renault pretty laughable in this whole ordeal? Big mouth but no heart.

Renault: We want a clear answer by this date
RBR: Yeah.....we're not gonna make that.
Renault: But....then we want an answer by this date.
RBR: yeah... you see... we're not gonna make that either
Renault: uhm yes.... but could we get an answer by then?
RBR: We need more data to make a good decision
Renault: ok ok... but could we please get an answer after that?
RBR: we're going with Honda.

Honestly, if Renault was happy to see them go they put their foot down much sooner. Yes they have their own team again but RBR brings the result and they didnt want to lose that just yet.

The team with the best bang for a buck for scoring points and podiums in the whole grid for the past decade by average? Please. If that's laundering, then what are the other teams doing?

Oh...

Ummm...Force India gets great results year after year with quite small budget. If part of their budget is "fraud", it would be even astonishing compared to the other teams. If that would be the case then maybe they should have increased the budget significantly, win races constantly and launder even more money while they're at it.

If FI is being used to launder money, then the team isn't seeing any of it, that's not how money laundering works lol
