This! (also mid atlantic/southeast and northwest :P )

However I think IndyCar should have a few international races though (cough: Surfers/somewhere in Aus/NZ, Canada, Mexico, somewhere in Europe, Losail)

IndyCar in talks with several tracks including Circuit of the Americas to replace Brasilia. If CoTA was selected, they could par it up with the Pirelli World Challenge date, which is the same day as what Brasilia would have been. Only issue with CoTA is that we could lose the Texas Motor Speedway date if Eddie Gossage is true to his word.

Only after Road America, Watkins Glen, Michigan, New Hampshire, Mosport, and about 10 other tracks are on the schedule should Indycar be looking to have a race outside of North America.

I'd take COTA over Texas any day.

Less dangerous, better racing, more challenging and anything to stick it to that dick Gossage.

but the main reason is I don't think in a million years that dick Gossage would cancel a potential income for a tantrum over a last minute replacementioned date at the other end of Indycars micro-season .

Try it, Gossage. Just try it.

You Dick.

People like Gossage are bloody minded enough to follow through with the threat, he's a NASCAR guy first remember and they never back down.

I hope IndyCar doesn't erase Brazil from its plans because the problems have its origins in a private media company called 'Bandeirantes' (nicknamed Band TV), the media company that owns IndyCar rights in Brazil.

To begin with, in 2014 Band didn't honor IndyCar's contract with São Paulo Indy 300 when they announced they were no longer financing the race claiming to be in debts. Then IndyCar CORRECTLY threatened to sue Band TV on US courts.

Fearing a bigger trouble, Band TV declined the cancellation of the "300 event" and as São Paulo's new mayor Fernando Haddad doesn't make it easy to organize the race, Band "traveled" nationwide looking for mayors or governors to sign new partnerships for the race event.

Ironically, Band TV found on Brasilia's government a backing for the race. I said "ironically" because Brasilia (Brazil's federal district) is currently in the center of a big corruption scandal involving Brazil's biggest oil company Petrobras and politicians. In order to prevent a possible future economic collapse, Brazil's newest Finance minister named in December 2014 has announced a huge program of costs cut and that happened to include cutting public funds on "Brasilia Indy 300".

You need to understand those details in order to understand why the damn race was cancelled. Indycar had no luck this time in Brazil.....that DOES NOT mean we don't want to host IndyCar races. I hope everyone understand that.

The Brasilia episode is still stinking so bad......I've just read IndyCar is trying everything not to lose money. There are currently more than 40 conteiners in the middle of Atlantic ocean carrying ethanol, gasoline and tyres for the event.

This without mentioning tv schedules around the World having trouble to negotiate breaking commercial deals. You simply can't cancel a race 38 days prior its meeting. This is criminal.

I'm sorry but what traditional racing venue? You're talking about the street race in Brazil right?

didn't Gossage even say that the NASCAR dates would be gone if they went to CoTA when somebody asked him about IndyCar going to CoTA back in like September

traditional for national motorsports

it actually hosted one non-points F1 race in 1975

Looks like that Indycar officias went to Goiânia to see if the local track (recently revamped) has conditions to host the race, otherwise St Petesburg will be a double header

The IndyCar Series opener scheduled for March 8 in Brazil was canceled after public prosecutors warned it would cost the local government too much and waste public funds, organizers said on Friday.

The government said prosecutors recommended the cancellation because the race was "not in the best interest of society," and there was a "clear inversion in the priorities for public spending."

The government agency in charge of the event in the Brazilian capital of Brasilia said prosecutors also pointed to problems in the contracts signed by the previous administration and promoters of the March race at the Nelson Piquet Autodromo, which had already sold two-thirds of the tickets.

The contracts required spending nearly $100 million just to renovate the track, the government said.

Brasilia is in the midst of a serious financial crisis, and the government has been unable to pay salaries to many public workers. The newly elected district governor had already relinquished the right to host the 2019 Universiade, a multi-sport event involving thousands of university students from around the world. A MotoGP race originally scheduled for this year also had to be canceled.

"While all efforts are underway to organize an event not essential to the society of the federal district, public employees are not getting paid," public prosecutors wrote in their recommendation to cancel the race.

Brasilia was one of the 12 World Cup host cities last year, and its stadium, the Estadio Nacional, was deemed the most expensive of those built or renovated for the football tournament.

IndyCar said on Thursday it was caught by surprise by the cancellation. It called the announcement a "great disappointment," but said it was "economically protected from such action."

The government admitted there was a $27 million fine for a breach of contract, but said it was valid only for the contract between IndyCar and the Brazilian network promoting the race, Band TV.

The network released a brief statement lamenting the "hasty" cancellation, and said it would begin advising fans how to reimburse their tickets. Prices started at about $27.

The government agency claimed the decision was not unilateral, and that it tried to re-work the contracts to make sure the race went ahead.

Band was responsible for the series' return to Brazil in 2010, when it raced on a street circuit in Sao Paulo for four consecutive years. The network was not able to secure the event in 2014 because of financial problems, but it reached a partnership with the previous government in Brasilia to organize the race this year.

The contract with Brasilia runs to 2019. Organizers said work at the track was almost finalized.

The Brazilian auto racing confederation lamented the cancellation, and said it hoped the renovation at the Brasilia track would continue despite the decision.

"Without a doubt, we are missing the opportunity to see a great event in Brazil," confederation president Cleyton Pinteiro said.

Just remember this, kiddies...this is the same nation that spent a ton of money to have the World Cup and the Olympics in that country.

I'm starting to think Brasilia spent too much on that stadium that's going to be about as full as a Marlins game in the forthcoming years.

That stadium costed 300% the original cost. Others "only" 150%.

Unfortunately this country is a mess......only a revolution in Brazil indeed.....I'm sick of corruption.

FIFA and IOC aren't blameless in that regard, either. I doubt IndyCar likes this one bit.

Randy Bernard's take on how to make IndyCar better included this gem:

" I’m still very loyal and try never to miss a race on television, although I must admit that since John Barnes has gone, I don’t have anyone to root against."

IndyCar will not schedule a replacement race weekend on March 6-8. However a open test day or 2 is possible.

That's the best thing to do.....IndyCar would lose money either way. You better lose money having more opportunity testing Aero kits than trying to make a desperate race in Brazil.

It was going to be risky business to make this race in Goiania (the circuit provides good racing) but everything getting done in a hurry only bring ingredients for a big fail.

Hopefully, IndyCar breaks its contract with Band TV (the real guilty in all this story). Hopefully, IndyCar TV rights in Brazil may return to SBT Network.
