Randy Bernard finally speaks about the fateful day in Las Vegas

To be honest, I think everyone gives him a tough time. Yes, he organized the Vegas race...yes, he put a $5M bet in which Wheldon only took up (Travis Pastrana would have, too, until he broke his ankle)...yes, he implemented double-file restarts which, in hindsight, isn't really a good idea for cars with open tops and without fenders (unless we're talking Modifieds here, but that's a whole different area)...but to blame him for an accident which could be easily occur at Texas, or anywhere for that matter, it seems unfair to me. All he tried to do is put IndyCar back on the map, and he did a good job doing that. Too good of a job.

Someone already said that Bernard didn't start this madness that Indycar has, he inherited. Randy has done a good job for Indycar and if you don't count the tragedy in, the season 2011 was definitely one of the best that Indycar Series has ever had on many levels. There was action, there was drama, the field was respectable, there were no Milka Duno's. Race directors did some silly decissions through out the season, but in the end it gave a lot to talk about the community - and most of all one of the best images from racing to internet - the Will Power's double bird.

I give high respect for Randy to leveling up the series' profile within just two years of his leadership. I couldn't agree more when he said that it's not the good times when you build character as a leader. It's the hard times and to be honest, there hasn't been anything else given for Randy in the series so far. But he can make the best out of it and he can raise the series back on the map, in a good way too.

I've liked Randy since day 1, and I don't blaim him at all for what happened at Las Vegas

How do you miss that? Guy comes in complaining of back pain, who also has a previous back injury, the idea is that you check the spine.

Morons.

That's rather upsetting. First thing I thought of was "compression fracture" when I saw Power's crash. Idiots.

I stopped reading when he mentioned that driving is too easy.

And I agree.

OK, those uncomfortable words eluded me. However, the point stood for remarks defending medical mistakes.

I apologize for this behavior. Obviously as a non physician I can't judge the situation well enough to critizise the doctors. Maybe my overall anger and grief about the whole situation got me there :(

Was walking home from work today, I saw an old screwed up paper and could just see "Indycar star dies" as the headline from what I could see :(

Something I meant to ask but wanted to wait for the right time is, was there a lights race at Vegas and did everyone make it out of that alright? :?

That was Kentucky.

The Vegas Lights race also had an accident that needed a red flag, but it was restarted and won by Carbone.

Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.

i wondered the same thing but obviously at the time other events made it pointless to ask. i did watch it on timing and scoring that morning, saw the red flag and wondered if it was taped at all. even in the pre-race at vegas they didnt mention the lights race. kinda annoying in my opinion.

you can send your messages of support or a little story about Dan that you have to that address, and like she says, they'll put them in a book for Sebastian and Oliver

Is there any footage of the Indylights race whatsoever?
