Itaipava Sao Paulo Indy 300 presented by Nestlé

[spoiler]The São Paulo Indy 300 is an event in the IRL IndyCar Series, which opened the 2010 IndyCar Series season.

The event was announced on November 25, 2009, as the first championship event for the series outside of North America and Japan, and the first American open-wheel race in the country since the Rio 200 at Jacarepaguá in 2000. Due to a lengthy distance to travel from most team bases, the event promoters offer each team a six-figure sum of money, as well as paying for all expenses.

The circuit is located in the Santana district, birthplace of legendary Brazilian driver Ayrton Senna and Brazilian auto racing pioneer Chico Landi. The main straightaway of the track is along the Sambadrome of Anhembi and utilizes portions of the Marginal Tietê service drive. The Anhembi Convention Center will be used for support facilities and spectator attractions. Unlike many other circuits, the pit lane is not located around the start-finish line; it is instead positioned after turn four. The circuit is one of two IndyCar Series circuits (Baltimore the other) to have pit lanes not positioned at the start-finish line.

The 2011 São Paulo Indy 300 will be the fourth race of the 2011 IZOD IndyCar Series season. The race will take place on May 1, on the 2.536-mile (4.081 km) temporary street circuit in São Paulo, Brazil, and will be telecast by Versus in the United States.

What about the front straight? Did they got that surface deal figured out for this year?...there was a carnival this year so I'd guess they used a surface suitable for the dancers.

Look like they have adopted a mobile ground for Carnival, I'm not completely sure of this, but I heard something from someone during the carnival days. For the Carnival parades, the surface must be quite smooth, while for IndyCar is has to be rough so they made a mobile surface there and now for the race they removed it. Don't ask me what material they used, perhaps something in carbon fiber.

About the bumps problems on the whole circuit (something that all drivers have complained about last year) São Paulo's municipality has released large amounts of public funds to invest on the best solutions for those bumps - something that has raised a certain discomfort in the population because this happened right in the month (february) when São Paulo has raised the tax for public transportation to a value that has been considered abusive and without relevant justification, so much that the opposition is requiring a report from the government explaining why they raised bus taxes. No report has been released yet but it look like it has a little bit to do with IndyCar Racing.

Any track changes this year (to the actual layout)?

This track is fantastic, the very long straight provides great overtaking chances

Maybe Helio will be a little calmer this go-around and do all restarts cleanly.

Eh, probably not.

And Viso. He's a KV driver, so the chances of him damaging something are quite high.

The chances of Viso hitting someone is the highest of any driver.

Why are always the clumsiest drivers the most easy to like?

True, but he has the highest chance of crashing on the pace lap, so he may be a non-factor.

KV Racing must be thrilled with Kanaan. A driver that actually knows how to drive without smacking the wall.

That's the only way they can support him: If he does not need spare parts.

Wait, you see that as a bad thing?

Just hope he qualifies nowhere near Andretti.

I wish Andretti could make it thru a race, he has such a nice looking scheme. I was sad not to see it fly by that often in Long Beach.

Sounds like the carnival surface solution was a bit less elegant:

"And hey, bumps are good for racing!”

COTMAN, Tony.

As far as we don't see cars flying on the way to the Tietê River due to the bumps in the back straight, I'm alright with it! I'm going to Anhembi this friday, gonna see all the work and track conditions.

Weather forecast for the weekend seems very good, very low chances of rain, saturday will be competely sunny, 26ºC and Sunday 27ºC, very low chances of rain. So no "chuva-chuva" so far!

Meanwhile, in the south of Brazil, IndyCar has made a confirmation meeting about 2012 season opener at Porto Alegre city. Like mentioned before, it's going to be on the streets of Porto Alegre, but layout is much bigger than I expected, looks really crazy!!!
