OK... That's done, a few things on my mind.

  • I keep on swinging between Power, and Franchitti taking the crown. I think that if anything, the championship is in the hands of Briscoe, Castroneves, and Dixon. Last year, we saw the two Ganassi boys fight it tooth and nail between each other (I remember the first 10 laps when they ran side by side), however this years race will be completely different, with the team-mates becoming key.
  • Dario's biggest dis-advantage is the fact that he NEEDS the two bonus points for leading the most laps, which means two things. One, he can't conserve fuel by running in the draft (Unless him and Scott work ridiculously well together at the front), as he can not afford to lose laps lead. And Second, the Penske guys, both knowing this, and having 3 guys in the team, mean that they use one guy to push Dario to the max (Meaning he can't conserve fuel), whilst using the other car to help Power (Thus helping him save fuel)
  • Cautions, and Restarts, like last year, could determine the outcome of the Championship. Last year, the fact that there were NO cautions, proved to be the key, as Dario managed to conserve fuel and win from being almost a lap down. This year, names like Takuma Sato have the Pit Guys working harder than Ross Brawn after his 5th Banana. Restarts will be crucial, both for lead lap bonus points, and being able to use the cars around to an advantage.
  • Power said at Motegi he was being cautious, and in some ways, he can be again, as he's racing for a position that doesn't have to be the win. However, Power need's to be able to run fast, in the draft, and be aggressive when he needs to be. Whilst Dario has to pretty much go down the all or nothing route, Power has the option to not make stupid moves.
  • People like Wheldon, TK, Danica etc, could cause problems. Wheldon has been amazing on the ovals this year, and proberbly will be again. TK is the king of Cold Tyres, and could very well pop a few restart suprises, and Danica? I dunno what it is, but I think she's gonna have a blinder...

Franchitti wins and Kanaan jumps the Penske guys for second and thus hands the title to Dario. Penske could fill the rest of Top 5 unless Power has another oval mishap.

Myself and some fool called codename_47 were discussing this in depth yesterday, and a few things came up.

The pace of the top 3 in comparison to the rest of the field last year was stupid. And this could really hurt Franchitti. Obviously, the fact there were no cautions, meant that the top guys had more time to move ahead, but Dario really does need TK/Wheldon/Marco etc, to be there in that mix, to cause headaches for Power, force him to running high to overtake...

At no point, did it cross our minds that Franchitti WOULDN'T lead the race... It was something we almost expected to be the case. Now this could work to his Disadvantage, as he is the guy that HAS to push the whole race. and every lap someone else is ahead of him, he's losing the chance to get those two bonus points.

Penske: Pit stops have been pretty shoddy this year. They Need to get it right. Period.

If it turns out to be a caution-free fuel run, it better involve the top two in points.

Sato's gonna prove us all wrong now, and score a podium isn't he!!!!

But on a serious note, the lead guys will have to be aware of people like him, especially when lapping, as we know how erratic they can be..
