ECMO machines are normally used for sick kids who need heart transplants. They are serious pieces of machinery.

That's grim. I noticed Callum Ilott tweeted the other day that there was a ceremony in JM's home country to "celebrate his life". I suspect we've not being told the full picture here, or at least that we weren't initially. At this stage I'm just hoping he can recover and live a somewhat normal life
