^^^ i agree. im honestly scared for the month. i just have this huge feeling that its gonna be a disaster. between driver safety and reliability of the cars its not gonna be a good month. i hope im proved wrong tho. the sport has been through enough after the vegas race last year :/

Yes, open wheel cars will always get up in the air, but I didn't like what I saw with Andretti's car. It's not a really high speed section of circuit, and I'd have expected the front to come straight back down. As soon as I saw it gaining height and spinning through the air, I worried. And they're going to be going twice as fast as that on ovals...

Hopefully it's just some freakish one off.

Just saw the race.

Brilliant street race. Excelente broadcast. Loved everything, the passes, the dump moves, the way the cars look fast.

I don't think I enjoyed before a Long Beach race like I just did.

I think that's not something to be worried about and aerodynamics played only a small part in the accident. I believe that most of the momentum was caused by the impact itself. And we're only having this debate because it's IndyCars, not any other racing series in the world.

The great majority here seems to think that the car was about to take off big time and maybe land in the ocean or in the center of Los Angeles. And that the new car is useless and probably the most dangerous thing with wheels on this planet, right after a Chevrolet Corvair with Ford Pinto's fuel tank.

How could it not have been possible? If they made contact closer to the corner then, yes, maybe it (at least getting above the tires) would've been POSSIBLE.

This is massively over the top. No one car will take flight since all drivers will be extra careful this time around at Indy.

That codename still calls Indycar "IRL" is further proof that he is the Indy Joker and wants to see it burn.

Head on in the fence did not happen most of the times cars went airborne in ovals either. Unfortunately it doesnt mean it can't happen the next time.

Yes freak accidents do occur but they are just that. Freak. Which means infrequent. Everyone is over analysing what happened. Using that logic let's speculate about how lucky Mark Webber was not to flip over, do cartwheels and get collected by every car following him when he got brief air during the GP. But it didn't happen.

I don't see anyone in the F1 threads campaigning to have cars somersaulting through the air on fire. Maybe, like me, they'd rather see smaller run off areas, and a chance to get beached in the gravel after a spin, but I fail to see how that compares in any way at all.

I don't want to judge the new car on this one incident, but it didn't fly like you'd expect your average open wheel car to fly. Combine this with Indycar's appalling history of flying Dallaras and it's little wonder that there are concerns about. As I say, I hope it's a one off, but I'm definitely a little worried about Indy.
