Little harsh. There's plenty of worse journalists around.

I admit, having watched some NBC stuff, that he isn't on the level of the others but to be GP2/3 commentator, an F1 pit reporter + presenter plus writing for a few magazines... he must be doing something right

Yes, he's a known quantity for the FIA stuff. His commentary on the season reviews is good but that's because it is scripted. The GP2/3 stuff is ok, but nothing more than ok. The live stuff is embarrassing and kitsch in his humour and delivery (it is almost a blessing in disguise that during F1 races he is barely used). Same for the canned stuff he's does pre-race. He tries too hard, I wish he would tone it down.

It is a harsh opinion, but very fair when you to watch your countryman be a caricature instead of a professional. I want to like him but he makes it very hard to do so.

You say he's doing something right, I say he is overused.

Maybe, I guess because the F1 world is very insular. I do get that impression sometimes that he goes OTT/a little bit of faux outrage to get attention.

I like him, I enjoy his knowledge and enthusiasm for the sport. I find some commentators are just so boring. Will is a little full of himself, but I enjoy listening to him.
