Razia doing his best to not win the championship again.

GP2 could really do with some kind of graphics update next year, it's so difficult to follow without the live timing.

Not a fan of Chilton but that was a mega lap.

Melkor crashes and brings the session to an end.

Filipi on pole.

Nice to see GP2 racing on the non-European F1 tracks, considering there's so many of them now.

They should race in the USA and another Asian track just so the drivers get the experience on these tracks.

The only problem is that makes the series so much more expensive. Even this year with the four non-European rounds, the prices soared and we've seen a lower quality field.

GP2 should try to race the double header at Montreal and New Jersey next year. That would be just :8:

It'd be better than two rounds in bloody Bahrain.

GP2 should be a european series only, but the problem with that is that F1 only has a few European races remaining. When F3000 started to go to Brazil it was the beginning of the end. Costs go up a lot when you have to ship to other continents. That was also the big cost for A1GP, that wanted to be a world championship from day 1.

Solution: get more European F1 races on the calendar.

Isn't the whole reason that GP2 Asia stopped because of costs?

It's a shame because GP2 at some of the late season races could be epic.

Or try to promote GP2 level championships wherever possible. Encourage GP2 drivers to compete in top level championships where F1 goes but GP2 doesn't.

Funny moment on the F1 Show. They had a segment with the British GP2 drivers and Georgie asked Nigel Roebuck whether he thought Max Chilton is F1 potential. Roebuck hesitated and then basically said it was solely down to money.

He did make a good point about the state of junior formulae - in that money doesn't get you to F1, but rather it allows you to see how much talent you have.

Pay drivers are not new and an old conversation. What is new (to me) is a British pay driver. While I should be showing support for my fellow countryman I can't, as he's no better than Gaston Mazzacane, et al. Weirdly I rate Vitaly Petrov higher than Max Chilton.

Wow, Max Chilton must really suck then, lol.

That's because Max Chilton has good speed but nothing special. And that he has the racecraft of a turd.

I'm sorry but Max doesn't have good speed. Granted he's enjoying his best season of GP2 but then again he's in his third year and the talent pool is average at best. Max was in British F3 for 3 or 4 years and won one race in his final year, despite driving for the Carlin powerhouse.

I'm not a great fan of his, but he is still very young. But yes, I see him as being like Van der Garde. Always there, but never special.

Wow, sorry but that's a big insult to Van der Garde.

Okay, Giedo's a bit better. But in 9 years of F3 Euroseries, FR3.5 and GP2 he's only had one year where he's been outstanding. The rest he's been good, but nothing to merit an F1 seat.

He did get thrown into British F3 at a crazy age with very little experience. It's easy to forget that he's still very young. Money may have bought him his way up the ladder, but he's definitely improved a lot this season, and surprised me along the way. I don't think the GP2 field is as talented as it was 5+ years ago, but you can only beat the competition around you. I honestly expected him to be somewhere around 10th - 15th place in each race.

My biggest criticism of Max is that he's pretty useless at overtaking. So many times I've seen him right behind another car, but never able to set up a move or complete a pass. Then again, it's better to rack up 5th place finishes than being Pastor Maldonado.

Good enough for F1? Probably not. There are better drivers out there who deserve that chance. I'd rate him far higher than a Mazzacane though. His best race finish in F3000 was a 6th, and 21st in points.

I just find it a shame we're talking about the prospect of Chilton racing in F1, while Robert Wickens faces another year in DTM...
